When I work on art, I want it to grab attention, create feeling, and show something different when viewed again. I strive to:

• Translate feeling into the movement of my hand
• Create a sense of place
• Capture human and animal form and gesture
• Use symbolism
• Communicate ideas in images
• Include ambiguities that can be interpreted in multiple ways.

I generally start work with a charcoal sketch, sometimes including random strokes, before working with color.  When I feel I am losing clarity in color, I often try to find it again in charcoals before moving on.
